Western Power provides opportunity for Jemena employees

Release Date: 16 February 2012

Following the announcement last week of Jemena Contracting Services West's decision to cease operations in Western Australia, Western Power today announced that approximately 80% of Jemena's WA field based staff have been offered positions working on the WA Power network, either at Western Power or with its contractors.

Some Jemena staff have been retained to assist with the close down process.

Western Power Executive General Manager of Operations Ken Brown said he was pleased that through close cooperation and communication at all levels, Western Power and its Alliance Partner and Distribution Partners had been able to provide employment security to so many Jemena staff.

Jemena had advised Western Power that as a result of ongoing operational losses, they were closing operations in WA effective from 7 February 2012.

"With experienced and skilled workers in demand, Western Power was looking to retain most of Jemena's WA based employees within the WA Power network and is pleased to have been able to retain the vast majority of these skilled West Australians.

"The closure of Jemena in WA has not adversely affected Western Power's public safety related work, such as wood pole replacements," Mr Brown said
