Find an electrical contractor

Registered Metering Service Providers

The Electricity Industry Metering Code 2005 provides that a person must not install a metering installation unless the person is a Registered Metering Installation Provider.

Western Power has established a Metering Service Provider Registration Scheme to facilitate the registration of electrical contractors and their electrical workers as Registered Metering Installation Providers. The Scheme provides for registration, the accreditation of electrical contractors, the authorisation of electrical workers, the checking of electrical work and electrical installations, and potentially the de-registration of electrical contractors and electrical workers who do not comply with the Scheme.

Western Power has established two related schemes for the accreditation of electrical contractors and the authorization of their workers:

1. The Contractor Connect (CC) scheme  (PDF 230kb) allows electrical workers (employed by electrical contractors engaged by a consumer) to connect and energise installations upon completion and testing of the work;

2. The Service Connect (SC) scheme  (PDF 280kb) allows electrical workers (employed by
electrical contractors engaged by a consumer) to connect and test installations however, they are not able to energise the connection. Western Power will energise connections established by SC electrical workers and SC electrical contractors.

Both schemes are limited to installations where the maximum demand per meter does not exceed 100 amperes (direct wired metering, not CT metering) and do not include connections to Western Power's overhead network.

Western Power does not accept any liability for any work undertaken by an electrical contractor (or electrical worker) engaged by a consumer or for any loss, damage or injury suffered by any person arising from such work or engagement.

If a consumer has a complaint about the work completed by an electrical contractor (or their workers), these should be directed to the Office of Energy Safety.
