Oversize vehicles

Transporting oversize loads can be dangerous, especially if safety measures are not taken to ensure the load remains a safe distance from powerlines. Operators of loads higher than 4.3 metres (4.6 metres for livestock vehicles travelling on nominated routes) or wider than 5.5 metres, must apply for a high load authorisation.

Transport operators must refer to Main Roads Western Australia before applying for authorisation.

New Information – effective 1 February 2012

From 1 February 2012 there will be two changes to the prices for certain services.

The changes are:

1. The fee for obtaining a permit for transporting an oversized load will be increasing from $110 to $120.
2. The fee for weekend and public holiday observer only services will be increasing as per the information below

The revised prices will be applied to all permits issued after 1 February.

New information - effective 1 November 2011

In conjunction with Horizon Power, Western Power has reviewed the current process for applications to move High Loads. This review has been carried out to reduce the administrative burden currently being undertaken by applicants to move loads within both Western Power and Horizon networks (inter-district).

As from the 1 Nov 2011 all applications to transport oversize loads that will require travel between Western Power’s network and Horizon Power’s network can now be lodged as a single application for the inter-district travel no matter where the origin of movement.

All oversized loads services will continue as normal within Western Power's and Horizon Power’s Networks.

Costs

Fees for processing on-line applications are payable by credit card.

1. To move oversize loads within Western Power’s network - $110 Inclusive of GST. ($120 post 1 Febuary)
2. Inter-district travel between Western Power and Horizon Power network - $260 inclusive of GST.
3. Escort costs for Western Power serves are charged as per our advertised schedule of rates
4. For all inter-district applications resulting in escort services from both Western Power and Horizon, the applicant will receive 2 invoices.

Escort rates

Charges will be incurred once the crew is dispatched.  Please provide sufficient notice (minimum of 1 working day) of cancelled or amended escort arrangements, in writing.
